Packed Tower – Gas Scrubber – Chemical Scrubber

Ducon Chemical Absorption Scrubbers (Gas Scrubbers / Packed Towers) – Video Overview

Watch our video to see Ducon’s Chemical Absorption Scrubber (Gas Scrubber) technology – a powerful solution for removing harmful gases and odors from industrial exhaust:

Effectively Cleaning Harmful Gases & Odors from Industrial Air

Many industrial processes release unwanted or harmful gases, fumes, and odors into the air (like sulfur dioxide, acid gases, ammonia, or chemical smells). Ducon’s Chemical Absorption Scrubbers, often called Gas Scrubbers or Packed Towers, are specifically designed to “wash” these pollutants out of the exhaust air before it’s released, protecting the environment and helping facilities meet clean air regulations.

How Does It Work Simply?

Think of it like a specialized shower for dirty industrial air:

  1. Dirty Air In: Polluted gas from the industrial process enters the bottom of the scrubber tower.
  2. Clean Liquid Down: A carefully chosen scrubbing liquid (often water with specific chemicals added to target the pollutants) is sprayed down from the top of the tower.
  3. Mixing Zone (Packing): The air flows upwards through special materials called “packing” inside the tower. This packing creates a huge amount of surface area, like countless tiny ledges and channels. As the liquid flows down over the packing, it spreads out into thin films.
  4. Gas Absorption: As the rising dirty air passes through the packing, it comes into close contact with the liquid film. The harmful gases in the air get absorbed into the liquid, similar to how sugar dissolves in water.
  5. Clean Air Out: The cleaned air continues up and exits the top of the tower, while the liquid carrying the captured pollutants flows out the bottom for treatment or recycling.

Ducon customizes the design (using packing, special spray nozzles, or trays) and the scrubbing liquid chemistry to ensure the most effective removal of the specific pollutants present in your facility’s exhaust.

Key Advantages of Ducon Chemical Scrubbers:

  • Highly Efficient Cleaning: Can achieve over 99.9% removal for many targeted gaseous pollutants and odors.
  • Customized Solutions: Designed specifically for your process, targeting contaminants like SO₂, HCl, H₂S, NOx, NH₃, CO₂, odors, and many others.
  • Versatile Designs: Available as Packed Towers (most common for gas absorption), Spray Towers (simpler, good for some applications), or Tray Towers.
  • Reliable Operation: Uses non-plugging liquid distribution nozzles and robust construction for dependable performance.
  • Handles Tough Conditions: Can be built to withstand high temperatures and pressures (ASME code designs available).
  • Durable Materials: Constructed from materials suited to your process environment (Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel, specialized alloys like Inconel, plastics like FRP or PVC).
  • Resource Management: Options available for recycling the scrubbing liquid to reduce water usage and operating costs.
  • Environmentally Responsible: Helps facilities meet stringent air emission regulations.

Effectively Removes Contaminants Like:

  • Acid Gases (Sulfur Dioxide – SO₂, Hydrogen Chloride – HCl, Hydrogen Fluoride – HF, Nitric Acid fumes)
  • Sulfur Compounds (Hydrogen Sulfide – H₂S, Total Reduced Sulfur – TRS, Mercaptans)
  • Nitrogen Oxides (NOx)
  • Ammonia (NH₃)
  • Chlorine (Cl₂) & Chlorine Dioxide (ClO₂)
  • Carbon Dioxide (CO₂) – *Specific applications*
  • Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs like Alcohols, Phenol, Formaldehyde, Ethylene Oxide, Amines)
  • Acid Mists (Sulfuric Acid, Acetic Acid)
  • General Odors and Fumes
  • Silicon Tetrachloride (SiCl₄)
