Open-Tower Chemical Absorption Scrubber · Acid Gas Control

Spray Tower Scrubbers — 99.99% acid & toxic gas absorption at very low pressure drop.

A Ducon Spray Tower — also known as a Packed Tower, or CAT (Chemical Absorption Tower) — is engineered primarily to absorb and neutralize toxic gases including SO₂, HCl, H₂S, NOₓ, NH₃, and volatile organic compounds. It is a counterflow column with no internal packing media; instead, proprietary non-plugging spray nozzles distribute liquid to create the necessary mass-transfer surface area. By manipulating the air-to-water flow ratio and using advanced nozzle technology, these systems achieve over 99.99% removal efficiency at very low pressure drop. For higher removal efficiency, the proprietary DRX-25 two-fluid nozzle atomizes alkali-containing slurry inside the spray reactor.

How It Works

Spray Tower Wet Scrubber — operating principle.

Polluted gas enters the lower section and travels upward through the open tower; clean scrubbing liquid is introduced from above and falls as a fine droplet curtain across multiple distribution elevations. Soluble gas species transfer into the liquid phase; captured contaminants drain to a recycle sump.

A chevron or mesh mist eliminator removes carryover droplets before stack discharge. For dry FGD service, the proprietary DRX-25 two-fluid nozzle atomizes lime or limestone slurry inside the spray reactor, achieving high removal efficiency without a packed bed that could foul or plug on high-solids streams.

Key Features

Engineering details that matter.

Open Tower — No Packing

No media to foul or plug on dirty, high-solids gas streams.

Proprietary Non-Plugging Nozzles

Spray-nozzle design handles slurries cleanly at any L/G ratio.

DRX-25 Two-Fluid Nozzle

Proprietary nozzle atomizes alkali slurry in the spray reactor for high-efficiency dry FGD.

Multiple Liquid Distribution Levels

Counterflow configuration with staged liquid inlets for optimized contact.
